Father Steve Thorne and the eighteen 8th Grade boys paid a visit to the law firm of Montgomery McCraken Walker & Rhoads, LLP for their annual “Tie Day.” The boys spent the day talking about the transition to high school, standing up and standing out, accountability, leadership, punctuality, academic excellence and other important life skills. One of the guest speakers, Deputy Chief Derrick Sawyer of the Philadelphia Fire Department, reminded the boys that “failure is not a failure unless you stop trying” and he encouraged the boys to write down their goals and to hold themselves accountable. Anthony Abron, a graduate of SMDP who went on to high school at Malvern Prep and is now a rising junior at George Washington University also spoke to the boys about the transition to high school.
